Triconex Earns Editors Choice Honors From Control Engineering Magazine

Jan. 17, 2005 - Triconex, a unit of Invensys Process Systems (IPS), today announced that its Trident fault-tolerant control system has been honored by Control Engineering magazine with an Editor's Choice award. The award recognizes products deemed as the most significant innovations featured in Control Engineering during 2004. Invensys' Foxboro and Wonderware units were also selected to receive Editor's Choice awards for their I/A Series Mesh Control Network and InTouch HMI products, respectively.

Triconex's Trident controller garnered honors for its use of an abstract interpretation process, a relatively new method for automatically checking dynamic properties of software applications without actually running any test cases and without having to execute the applications. The Trident system uses abstract interpretation to provide continuous control for safety-critical units in refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants, and other industrial processes.

"Triconex continues to implement the newest technology capabilities in its existing product line to provide customers with the cutting-edge tools they need to stay competitive and profitable," said Bill Barkovitz, Triconex's vice president of product marketing. "Having earned the recognition of a respected publication validates that the company's innovative technologies are advancing the interests of our customers as well as the safety and critical process control industry."

The Trident controller is one of only 40 award winners selected by editors from among all new products featured during 2004 in the print edition of Control Engineering, its online Web site or one of the publication's topical e-mail newsletters. Editors reviewed the complete list of products to select winners based on criteria such as service to the industry, technological advancement and market impact.

Triconex is one of the process industry's leading providers of safety and critical control solutions with thousands of worldwide installations. Like its flagship Tricon controller, the, Triconex's Trident controller provides fault tolerance by means of a proven Triple-Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture that integrates three isolated, parallel control systems and inherent diagnostic to assess controller health. The Trident controller is used for safety and critical process control applications requiring both availability and reliability. It is readily available to deliver whenever a process demand requires it without adding complexity to the implementation or maintenance. It can also withstand harsh industrial environments, allow online maintenance without disturbing the process and is optimized for critical applications with small to medium point counts.

In addition to highly reliable control platforms, Triconex provides engineering and consulting services that assist customers in meeting the requirements of the international safety standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
